Welding Technology
Western’s Welding Technology Program will equip students with the entry-level skills
needed to confidently enter the workforce. Students will gain hands-on experience
with multiple welding processes and joint configurations, while learning to apply
industry-relevant welding codes, standards, and documentation.
The program emphasizes the ability to identify and work with appropriate filler metals and base metals, using proper techniques for both structural components and piping systems. In addition, workplace safety is a core focus, with training on safely operating equipment in shop, plant, and field environments.
Program Learning Outcomes
Students in the Welding Technology Program will be able to:
- Troubleshoot welding equipment and techniques
- Cultivate and maintain safe workplace practices
- Demonstrate proficiency in multiple welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Cored)
- Understand and apply relevant welding codes and industry standards
- Interpret welding drawings, blueprints, and symbols
- Communicate effectively using proper welding terminology across various professional settings
