Grants and Scholarships

Special Ability Grant

Western Wyoming Community College offers grants to students who have special abilities in performance. The Special Ability Grant can provide up to full-time (15 credits) in-state* tuition, in exchange for the student’s active participation and leadership in specific performance areas. Students must apply to Western and accept the Special Ability Grant by May 5 to be eligible.

Criteria set by Western Wyoming Community College to receive and maintain a Special Ability Grant:
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA at or above 2.0.
    • If you are a transferring with previous credits from a higher education institution, Dual Enrollment Credits, or Concurrent College Credits, you must have a 2.0 GPA or higher in your college courses.
  • Successfully complete a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
  • Be approved by the instructor.
  • Actively participate in the program.
  • Meet the department’s unique criteria.
Unique Criteria set by the Theatre Department:
  • Be actively working toward an Associate of Arts in Musical Theatre degree.
  • Must be enrolled in  0 credit Theatre Practice (THEA2050) course.
  • Attend all department meetings, auditions, work calls, strikes, rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances each semester. These are mandatory and may result in loss of the Special Ability Grant if not in attendance.
  • Complete the entire audition process for our fall and springs peformance seasons. (Dance, Acting, Vocal, Callback, etc.)
  • Maintain a passing grade in all practicum and a "B" in private lesson courses each semester.
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 in theatre, music, and dance courses.
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 in all general education.
  • Auditioning and participating in non-departmental production opportunities in not permitted without written permission of the theatre faculty.

Maintaining Grants and Scholarships

At the end of each semester the student's entire academic record will be reviewed. If the student fails to meet the criteria above, they will be notified of their status and the following will occur:

Special Ability Grant

  • Awarded on an annual basis. To be considered for a subsequent year, students must re-apply and re-audition. Details are provided by the Theatre Department in the spring to eligible students.
  • Failure to meet the Theatre Department criteria will result in the suspension of the Special Ability Grant:
    • The student may write an appeal to the suspension. The appeal letter is due to the Theatre Department by the Monday following the last day of finals.
    • Failure to meet the eligibility standards for a second semester will lead to a permanent loss of the Special Ability Grant.
