These awards recognize the instructors who go above and beyond in creating excellent learning experiences to Western’s students. Nominees are individuals who exemplify great instructor characteristics and provide Western students with high quality, student centered, and active learning opportunities.  For 2025, the following professors were recognized at an employee banquet. 

Innovative Educator Award:

Mrs. Pauley earned the Innovative Teaching Award for her forward-thinking approach to math education, particularly through her successful integration of HyFlex learning in her courses. By making her classes more accessible and flexible, she ensures all students can engage meaningfully, whether in person or online. Mrs. Pauley is passionate about teaching through real-world examples, making abstract concepts practical and relevant. Her enthusiasm for math is infectious, and she consistently delivers clear, engaging instruction that turns learning into a genuinely enjoyable experience.

Dr. Stacie Lynch-Newberg, Professor of Mathematics
Dr. Lynch-Newberg was earned the Teaching Excellence Award for her extraordinary dedication to student success, especially for those who have long struggled with math. One student, returning to college decades after high school, shared how her unmatched teaching skills and genuine encouragement turned a lifelong fear of math into a newfound confidence. Her classroom is a judgment-free, supportive environment where she adapts to individual learning styles—starting each semester with a learning assessment to better understand her students. Dr. Lynch-Newberg not only explains problems in multiple ways but also remains consistently accessible, compassionate, and committed to helping every student succeed.
