1. Policy & Purpose

The College Administration will establish a procedure for review, feedback and development of the academic calendar. The calendar will be approved two years in advance so that there is always a two-year calendar in effect. The Board of Trustees will review and approve the College’s official academic calendar annually.

1. Procedure

  • A standing College committee will develop a calendar proposal to be delivered to the President.
  • The Committee will be chaired by the Chief Academic Officer and consist of five other members: two faculty to be appointed by the Faculty and Professional Senate, the Vice President of Student Services or designee, the College Registrar or designee, and the Director of Financial Aid or designee. Prior to submitting the calendar proposal to the President, drafts will be delivered to the Academic Council, Student Services Senior Staff, Faculty and Professional Senate, and the Paraprofessional Alliance . All parties will have five (5) business days to provide feedback. The committee will make changes it deems appropriate based on feedback.
  • The calendar will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval and formal review.

Duration

The academic calendar shall extend two years into the future.

Academic Year

The academic year consists of Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. Term lengths will comply with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), U.S. Department of Education (DOE), and state regulations.

Fall And Spring Terms

Fall and Spring terms may have accelerated blocks offered within the term.  Accelerated blocks will meet the same total instructional time and learning outcomes as traditional full-term courses.

Summer Term

Summer term will begin the first full week of June.
