Install, maintain, and repair substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and relays

Inspect substation components for wear, damage, overheating, or corrosion

Perform functional and diagnostic tests on electrical systems and components

Monitor system performance to ensure proper voltage regulation and load balancing

Operate equipment to safely de-energize and re-energize high-voltage systems during maintenance or repairs

Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams

Calibrate and maintain protective relays and control systems

Utilize SCADA systems to monitor and control substation operations remotely

Follow safety procedures including lockout/tagout, arc flash protocols, and PPE usage

Respond to system faults, outages, and emergency repairs, often as part of an on-call rotation

Electrical Theory & Safety
Understanding of AC/DC systems, grounding, fault currents, and safety protocols -
High-Voltage Equipment Operation
Knowledge of transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, and relays -
Testing & Troubleshooting
Ability to use meters, relay testers, and diagnostic tools to locate and resolve faults -
SCADA Systems
Familiarity with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems for remote monitoring and control -
Protective Relays & Control Circuits
Skill in installing, calibrating, and maintaining protection and control systems -
Blueprint and Schematic Reading
Interpreting wiring diagrams, schematics, and system layouts accurately -
Switching Procedures & Load Management
Understanding of safe switching practices and power load balancing -
Mechanical Aptitude
Ability to assemble, disassemble, and maintain mechanical components of electrical systems -
Basic Programming & Communication Systems
Exposure to programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and communication protocols (fiber optics, RTUs)
