Every business and company, regardless of the type of industry, location, or size, requires employees who can efficiently use business applications, navigate technology, and work collaboratively to make business decisions. The skills learned in the Information Systems degree program are applicable to nearly any type of business. This degree prepares students to succeed in a variety of roles and provides a practical way to gain entry-level employment in many different fields.

The 60-credit Associate of Applied Science Degree in Information Systems is very unique offering stackable certificates as part of the degree program and the potential to earn nationally recognized credentials and certificates. To complete the degree, students must complete 19 general education credits and the remaining 41 credits are fulfilled by completing 2-3 certificates listed in the Certificates section below.

This 60-credit Associate of Applied Science Degree in Information Systems combines 19 general education credits and 41 remaining credits from completion of 2-3 Information Systems certificates.

Information Systems AAS Program Layout

Today’s businesses require highly skilled individuals in the area of computer applications software and concepts to assist in detailed and overall business processes and practices. The certificate will provide students with these advanced skills and knowledge in currently-popular/industry-standard application software programs giving them a competitive edge and the expertise to assist businesses in every industry and discipline.

Application Software Specialist Certificate Program Layout (18 credits)

There is great demand for computer proficiency in business. This certificate prepares students the necessary skills in Business Computing. Upon completion of the certificate students will have learned the technology skills required to manage a small business as well as be ready to enter industry with knowledge of software programs utilized.

Business Computing Certificate Program Layout (21 Credits)

This 31-credit certificate is an excellent option to gain skills and well-rounded knowledge in the area of cybersecurity. It is a stackable option for an AAS in Information Systems or an excellent addition to other degrees including an AS in Computer Science or any of our business degrees.

Cybersecurity Certificate Program Layout (31 credits)

The digital age is here! To have a competitive advantage in this area, one must be prepared to create any type of document necessary in a digital format and deploy it in a variety of applications and media from Web sites to presentations to print and more. Students earning a certificate in Digital Media and Web Design will learn to create, deploy, and manage digital content for business and the digital world giving them an edge in today's fast-paced digital landscape.

Digital Media and Web Design Certificate Program Layout (17 credits)

The Help Desk/IT Support Specialist Certificate is designed to provide training for aspiring IT Help Desk technicians. Students will gain the knowledge and develop the skills in the computing technologies required for a variety of entry level positions in the field IT support. Such computing technologies include hardware and software support, programming principles and practices, ERP training, networking, and cybersecurity. The program included foundation courses that are aligned with desired industry certifications. 

Help Desk/IT Support Specialist Certificate Program Layout (22 credits)

This certificate prepares students for positions in the administrative area of the medical industry. It provides basic clerical training in computer concepts, medical terminology, medical coding, insurance billing, HIPPA, and medical record keeping.

Medical Information Systems Certificate Program Layout (20 credits)

 

Students earning the Social Media Certificate will learn to create, deploy and manage digital content for the social media and digital world giving graduates an edge in today’s fast-paced social media sphere. Upon completion, the student will be well-versed in the current industrial standard digital design and social media technology and applications. The skills learned will be of value for any discipline including business, communication, art, education, science and more.

Social Media Certificate Program Layout (16 credits)

The Web Programming Certificate is housed in the Computer Science Department but it is a nice fit alongside some of the Information Systems certificates for the Information Systems AAS degree so it is included here. This certificate is designed to prepare students for entry-level and/or advanced positions in the Information Technology industry with such titles as Web Designer, Web Developer, or Web Editor. Upon completion of coursework, the graduate will understand the history, evolution, and concepts of the Internet and World Wide Web; perform basic functional operations of the World Wide Web; understand the role of the Internet, Intranets, and Internet tools in business; and be able to plan, design, develop, and maintain interactive dynamic Web pages using current web scripting languages.

Web Programming Certificate Program Layout (24 credits)

As the Information Systems department and program transition from Business Information Systems to a more technology-based curriculum, the AAS in Business Information Systems AAS degree will be sunsetted and no longer offered after the 2023-2024 academic year.

Information Systems also houses a few certificates not included in the stackable options for the new Information Systems degree. These certificates are being sunsetted and will no longer be offered after the 2023-2024 academic year.
