Dr. Marty Nelson is an Adjunct Professor of Psychology who began teaching psychology courses with Western Wyoming Community College in 2009. He has always enjoyed teaching and values the opportunity to engage students in exploring both the theory and practice of psychology. Dr. Nelson holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology, a master's degree in Counseling, and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Since beginning his professional practice in 1995, he has been involved in a wide variety of psychological activities—some rewarding, some not. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate students in subjects including general psychology, abnormal psychology, personality theory, child psychology, and forensic psychology. His clinical experience spans work with infants, children, teens, adults, and geriatric populations. He has worked in inpatient hospitals, outpatient clinics, community mental health centers, maximum security prisons, state institutions, an Army hospital, a college, and has contracted for the federal government. He has testified before state legislatures and in courtrooms numerous times. Dr. Nelson has attended a wide variety of trainings, traveled extensively, and treated a diverse range of individuals. Despite his broad range of professional experiences, he has always maintained an ongoing practice in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness—the core reason he entered the field. After partially retiring in 2019, he now splits his time between wintry Minnesota and sunny Myrtle Beach. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor recreation, including snowboarding, hiking, biking, and relaxing on the beach. Dr. Nelson is grateful for his students and hopes they enjoy his classes as much as he enjoys teaching them. He lives with his family in Evanston, Wyoming and travels the state spreading the word about our organization.
