Michelle Schutten has been baking since she was a little girl. When her boyfriend proposed to her, she took on the challenge of making their wedding cake. She had the baking skills, but not the decorating. She took two classes at a local craft store in their community, and successfully made their cake!
Because of the passion and skills she gained in the cake decorating classes, Michelle began working in a high end bakery. She was able to refine her baking skills and learned to quickly and efficiently frost and decorate a cake.
She became a Wilton Method Cake Decorating instructor, and taught cake decorating classes in her community. Michelle began community education cake decorating classes in Rock Springs just months after moving here. She has taught over 800 students in town, and counting! She teaches anything from basic to advanced cake decorating classes. This spring Michelle is teaching the following classes: purse cakes, basic cake decorating, watercolor buttercream cakes, gum paste flowers and mother/daughter cakes.
Aside from teaching cake decorating class in person, she recently began a YouTube channel – Sweetwater Cakes, with almost 70 videos. The tutorials range from how to make a basic cake or crack an egg with one hand, to cupcake cakes and a geode wedding cake. This has been a fun and creative outlet that allows Michelle to “sweeten the world!”
She truly believes that baking and decorating a cake from home is a sign of love for family and friends. Michelle hopes that through her community education classes and online tutorials, she is able to make a difference in the world and empower others to make a cake for their loved ones.
