The Mustang Wrestlers will have one more home meet for the 2015-16 season. The Northwest Kansas Tech Mavericks, who were supposed to visit Western back on Dec. 18 but were unable to make the trip due to weather, will come into town on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 12 p.m. to face the #12-ranked Mustangs for the second time this season.
Western previously defeated NWKT 33-13 in a road dual on Nov. 14.
This week, the Mustangs travel to Northwest College for the Apodaca Duals on Jan. 29 and 30. They will face #8 North Idaho on Friday night at 5 p.m. Saturday’s opponents include #4 Iowa Central, last year’s NJCAA national champion, at 11 a.m. and #5 Iowa Western at 1 p.m.
On Friday, Jan. 22, the Mustangs dropped a hard-fought home meet 26-21 against #14 Northwest College in which they led 15-14 before forfeiting two contests due to minor injuries. Coach Art Castillo confirmed that he held a few wrestlers out against NWC mostly as a precaution and not due to any serious injuries.
The Feb. 6 meet vs. NWKT will also serve as Sophomore Day for Western’s eight second-year wrestlers. They include: Aaron Allard; Ulisses Lopez; Arthur Tomax; Dylan Sackett; Kaden Campbell; Zeke Mamalis; Chris Restad; and Jaydon Rogers.
