Western’s Dance department is committed to honoring body diversity and to serving dancers from all backgrounds. Students majoring in Dance are members of Mustang Dance Company, our pre-professional concert dance company. As company members, students perform on stage, choreograph new works, and participate in community outreach activities. Dance majors participate in the American College Dance Association festival for the Northwest Region.
Western’s dancers come from a variety of backgrounds; some are lifelong dancers, some were members of high school or studio dance teams, and some are experiencing dance education for the first time. College dance levels the playing field for all students of dance.
Foundational technique courses such as Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Dance Improvisation take place in our professional-quality studio and are strengthened by an online component that contextualizes these dances with history and theory. Courses such as Dance Choreography and Dance Instruction Methods prepare students for employment as early as their second semester of college.
- Students will apply dance terminology and physical technique to the acquisition and execution of choreography.
