1. Procedure

The College may grant emeritus status to retired instructional faculty in recognition of long-term teaching excellence, distinguished service, and outstanding contributions to instruction.  
 
Eligibility 
The primary criterion for emeritus status is continuous teaching excellence. Additional, meritorious achievements, such as research, service to the college, and community involvement, may also be considered. To be eligible, the candidate must meet the following criteria: 
• Separation from full-time service 
• Service as an Instructional faculty member 
• Completion of twenty (20) years of full-time service to Western Wyoming Community College 
• Attainment of the rank of Associate professor or Professor. 

Nominations 

  • Nominations for emeritus status may be submitted by any student or College employee. Nominations must be submitted in writing to the Human Resources Office no later than April 1. 

Approval Process 

  1. Upon receipt of a nomination from the Human Resource office, the Vice President of Academic Affairs shall convene an ad hoc Emeritus Faculty Committee. 
     
  2. The committee shall be composed of: Three (3) instructional faculty members appointed by the Senate Chairperson,
    1. Two (2) administrators appointed by the President,
    2. Two (2) students appointed by the Associated Student Government President,
    3. The Vice President of Academic Affairs is an ex-officio member.
  3. The committee shall review all nominations and forward its recommendation to the Vice President of Academic Affairs by the third Thursday of April.
  4. The Vice President of Academic Affairs shall review the recommendation of the committee and shall forward a recommendation to the President by the fourth Thursday of April.
  5. The President shall review all recommendation(s) and forward a recommendation to the Board of Trustees for action on or before the second Thursday of May.
  6. The Board of Trustees shall make the final decision regarding the awarding of emeritus status. 

Recognition 
At the discretion of the President, recognition of the emeritus faculty may include, in addition to the honorary title:  

  • Opportunities for flexible teaching, tutorial, or administrative duties with appropriate compensation. 
  • Access to office space, and use of college facilities for research or other academic pursuits.
