2021-22 Mustang Wrestling

The 2020-21 season was definitely one for the books!  As the world navigated the Covid-19 pandemic, so did the Mustangs. With unwavering commitment, discipline, and trust, the Mustangs were able to accomplish a feat that had previously never been achieved in the history of NJCAA wrestling, have 10 All-Americans in the same season! This propelled the Mustangs to a National Runner-Up finish, just 5.5 points away from their first ever National title. The Mustangs also won their fourth straight Region 9 / Rocky Mountain District title. Coach Castillo was named the NJCAA/NWCA National Coach of the Year and the Region 9/ Rocky Mountain District Coach of the year for the third time in four years. On top of that, this outstanding group of men finished second in the nation academically, with seven Academic All-Americans.

This season, the Mustangs will return seven All-Americans from last year’s squad. Garrett Ricks (3rd @125lbs), Destin Summers (7th @ 133 lbs.), Caleb Nathan  (4th @ 141 lbs.),  Collin Smith (6th @ 165lbs.), Andrew Nicholson (7th @ 184 lbs.), Tyler Scheurn (4th @ 197lbs.), and Wyatt Kearn (8th at 285 lbs.) Mason Christiansen (2nd @ 174lbs.) was eligible to return but moved on to wrestle for Oregon State University.  With another outstanding recruiting class, the Mustangs look to once again be in the hunt in Council Bluffs, IA in March!
