Mustang Wrestling

The 2021-22 season was capped off by a 4th place finish at the NJCAA National Championships, which included seven All-Americans and one National Champion, Garrett Ricks at 125lbs. The Mustangs were 12-1 in duals on the year and finished as the National Runner-Up at the NJCAA duals. The Mustangs won their 5th straight Region IX / Plains District Championship and qualified all 10 weights. The Mustangs finished with the second highest GPA in the NJCAA academically and had seven All-Academic team members. Coach Castillo was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame with the class of 2022. Garrett Ricks and Tyce Raddon have transferred to wrestle for the Cowboys at the University of Wyoming this coming season.

This season the Mustangs return two All-Americans from last year. Joseph Mecham was 6th at 133lbs., and Christian Smoot was 3rd at 174lbs. Castillo has a very strong group returning and has reloaded with a wealth of incoming talent from all over the country with this recruiting class. This group of incoming freshmen have won a combined 29 individual State Championships. The Mustangs will begin their season on the road with a dual against the newly formed program, Snow College on Nov 2nd.
