Student Worker Appreciation Day

Walking around on campus, you see people who are working all over campus; do you ever stop and think about who is working? April 14, is Student Worker Appreciation Day and to celebrate, I took time and spoke with some student workers across campus about what they do and why.
Why did you become a student worker for the Peer Tutoring Center?
“I started working at the Peer Tutoring Center because they needed a math tutor, and it just so happened that I had lots of free time in-between classes. I also figured that because I’ve done well in my previous math classes, that I might as well help others.” - Timothy Graham
Tim can be found in the Peer Tutoring Center, and he tutors up to Calculus 3. If you ever need a tutor, you can find all the information you need here.
What drew you into being a student worker for the ceramics room? What are your plans after you get your associates?
“I used to make clay for my high school ceramics class, and I figured out that the college was hiring in the ceramics room. So, I figured, why not get paid to do something I like to do? I am currently working on my art associates, then I plan to go to the University of Wyoming, taking another four years to get my Masters in Art. That will allow me to further my education in the arts.” - Marcus Kopp
While at Western I worked two jobs, both as a student worker! I became a student worker last year as an English tutor in Peer Tutor and I continued into this year as well. On top of that, I also started working as a student worker for Sodexo, making drinks and foods that people can grab on the go. I decided to become a student worker to save up for when I graduate this semester and transfer over to the University of Wyoming. I believe that being a student worker is a great way to help out around your campus. If you’re looking for a job, look around the campus, there are always positions that are hiring within the Peer Tutoring Center, Sodexo, the MAC Center, the Aquatic Center, and more!
