Now Open: 2027-2028 Free Application for Federal Student Aid

Cheyenne, WY - October 6, 2026 - The U.S. Department of Education has announced that the 2027-28 Free Application for Federal Student Aid form is now open. Filling out the FAFSA form is the main way to determine students’ eligibility for most federal and state financial aid, and the Wyoming Community College Commission encourages students to file their FAFSA by February 1, 2027, to be considered for the most financial aid available.
Completing the FAFSA is a required step to access a wide range of financial aid programs, including the federal Pell Grant, the Hathaway Scholarship, Wyoming’s Tomorrow Scholarship, and Wyoming Works.
"Discovering what financial aid is available can change a student’s future, and it all starts with the FAFSA,” said WCCC Executive Director Dr. Laurel Ballard. “We strongly encourage local leaders to partner with us in making sure every student knows about this opportunity."
Free and redesigned to make the form clearer and more family-friendly, the FAFSA can be accessed at www.fafsa.gov and will only take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Families should have financial documents such as tax returns and W-2 forms on hand when filling out the application.
