Western Wyoming Community College (Western) is deeply saddened to share the loss of one of our students, Meeka Iwen. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Meeka’s family, friends, classmates, faculty, and all who have been impacted by this tragic loss.

Meeka was a highly engaged and dedicated student pursuing a career in health sciences. She was an honor student, served as Treasurer of the Student Government Association, worked on campus as a student employee, and actively participated in campus events. Her talents in photography and social media contributed meaningfully to our campus community. She brought energy, creativity, and leadership to Western, and her presence will be deeply missed.

With the permission of her family, we share that Meeka’s death was the result of suicide. This news has left our campus community shocked and grieving. In times like these, it is natural to experience a range of emotions, including sadness, confusion, and even guilt. We are grateful to Meeka’s family for allowing us to share this information in hopes of raising awareness about the growing mental health challenges facing young adults today.

We respectfully ask the community to honor the privacy of Meeka’s family as they mourn the loss of their beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, and cousin during this difficult time. Information regarding funeral services will be shared internally at the family’s request once arrangements have been finalized.
