The Mustangs enter their third year under head coach Garett Sherman assisted by Mike Swenson. The 2016-2017 team includes the following sophomores:
  • Julia Hanni 6' Wing (Sweden)- A versatile player who was ranked as one of the top 100 freshmen in junior college basketball last year by Dan Olson's Girls Basketball Report ESPNW.
  • Savannah Hunter 6' Small Forward (Washington) - A strong and athletic player who is very good around the basket, with the ability to score on the perimeter.
  • Irene Garrido Perez 6'1 Guard (Spain)- As a freshman she was voted 1st team All Region and was also ranked as one of the top 100 freshmen junior college players by Dan Olson's Girls Basketball Report ESPNW. As a sophomore she once again made the top 100 junior college list according to Dan Olson's Girls Basketball Report.
  • Shayla Simpson 5'8 Guard (Utah) - Strong and athletic combo guard who defends, rebounds and gets into the lane with a good mid-range game.
  • Lexi Smith 5'9 Guard (Utah) - She should be one of the best shooters in Region IX this year and has become a more versatile player to create for herself and others.
  • Cara Thomas 6' Small Forward (Colorado) - Expanded her game as a freshman and does a nice job on the boards on both ends. Cara does all the little things to make a team successful.
  • Ozge Yarga (Turkey) - Ozge transferred from Western Nebraska and had a good freshman year with them. She can play the point or off the ball and is very quick with the ability to score inside or outside. On the defensive end she can put a lot of pressure on the other team's ball handlers.

Five incoming freshman make up the rest of the Mustang squad including:
  • Rachel Brothers (Utah) - a 6'2 forward who can score facing up or with her back to the basket. We expect her to help us out on the boards and she adds some much needed size to this year's team.
  • Dora is a pure point guard with great vision and can get to the basket or shoot the 3 from deep. Defensively she causes a lot of problems and is the kind of player who makes everyone around her better. She is currently ranked among the top 100 junior college freshmen in the country according to Dan Olson's Girls Basketball Report ESPNW.
  • Olivia James (Utah) - Olivia is a 6'4 power forward with good upside. She moves well and is skilled and we expect her to contribute for us on both ends. She is currently ranked among the top 100 junior college freshmen in the country according to Dan Olson's Girls Basketball Report ESPNW.
  • Marlee Machon (Utah) - A jet quick point guard who can also play off the ball with the ability to create her own shot or create shots for others.
  • Holly Wilkes (United Kingdom) - A 6'4 post who moves well, scores around the basket and changes shots on the defensive end.

The Mustangs come into the 2016-2017 season with a good combination of experience and talent. "It has been a building process here for the last couple seasons," said Coach Sherman. "We added a talented freshmen class last year with our first recruiting class. We went into the off season knowing we needed to address our point guard position and we needed to add some size down low and we did just that. This group has a chance to be special by the end of the year and I'm excited to get to work."
