Transitioning from Summer to Fall

The transition from summer to fall is one that comes in the blink of an eye. Especially in Wyoming, you can see a sunny weekend, with snow programmed for the following week. It can be hard to transition from season to season, but with proper preparation, you can feel ready for what lies ahead, snow or sunshine.
Summer is commonly seen as the season of freedom. For most college students, it’s the season of stress-free days. Waking up knowing you don’t have to cram assignments or tests in. Fall comes with a quick switch up. During fall, students are back in school following a structure yet once again. Freedom can often feel lost during the season of fall. However, there are many ways that you can prepare your mind and body to be ready for the transition from summer to fall.
Instead of looking at routines in fall as a burden, you should embrace the change. Routine and structure can bring comfort in the predictability of what is coming next. Planning in advance when you will be studying, exercising, or even relaxing can relieve some unnecessary stress. Creating small habits or rituals that you can do when you are struggling with the change in seasons is another great way to help make each season flow smoothly. Something as simple as getting an iced pumpkin spice latte with a friend before class, or doing homework outside to admire the changing trees can help you look forward to the new season instead of despising it.
It all comes down to shifting your mindset, instead of looking at a new season as something negative, train your brain to see the positive in things, for example, one might see that the new fall season comes with cooler days and earlier sunsets. This could initially make you feel depressed or anxious. Try flipping your mindset to see this as an opportunity to have a cozy night in with friends. Instead of dreading that the cold is approaching, see this as an opportunity to get hot chocolate whenever you feel like it, as well as being able to use that cozy blanket once again!
While there will be struggles that are inevitable with the change in season, by being prepared mentally, you can help yourself transition smoothly. Embracing change, instead of trying to fight it. Every season has its own beauty, and fall is one that leads with colorful views, warmth, and coziness. Make the most of the seasonal shift and continue that positivity throughout the upcoming seasons, and don’t forget to stay up to date on all the latest back to school activities!
