It's important to remember that during college Valentine’s Day can look a little different.

Celebrating Valentine’s Day on a college campus can look different for everyone. Some of your friends may be in relationships, some may not be in relationships, but still enjoy decorating and spending time with their gals, and others simply don’t do anything at all, which is also perfectly fine. Showing yourself self-love is more than enough. College is already a time of growth and self discovery and Valentine’s Day can be used to celebrate just that.

It's important to remember that during college Valentine’s Day can look a little different. Maybe it’s a date night squeezed in the afternoon, sharing a meal in the dining hall or even getting to FaceTime your significant other back home. Small moments like these also count, Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be extravagant like movies portrayed to be. It’s important to remember that being a college student includes a busy life, and schedules that may be all over the place, and it’s important to remember that college life is just temporary.

Like I mentioned before Valentine’s Day, doesn’t have to do anything with a significant other, but rather spending time with those who fill your cup. it’s important to remember who is there for you when college life gets tough, when you feel homesick, and when you simply need a hug. Relationships like these often get reluctant Valentine’s Day so even a quick text to the important people in your life can make their day.

Valentine's Day can be any day that you want to be, most importantly, it can be a reminder to practice self love. College life can sometimes have a toll on us, and we forget to put ourselves first and take care of our needs, this day can be a day to reset and show ourselves  the same kindness that we give to others.

Lastly, I want to mention that if you catch yourself feeling lonely, especially on Valentine’s Day, that is perfectly normal and okay. It's important to remember that everyone moves through life at a different pace, and that life isn’t a race. Being in college can make it especially hard to not compare yourself to others, so maybe Valentine’s Day can be a day to begin practicing self love from here on out.
