3 Parent-Friendly Study Spaces

It can be tricky finding a study space that accommodates both a student’s needs and their child’s. When that parental guilt holds heavy and you feel like you’re neglecting your little one by having your face stuffed in textbooks and a laptop, college becomes more daunting. Luckily, Sweetwater County holds space for people in this position – people who want to build their future but acknowledge their baby’s present.
Starting off with number one: The Green River Recreation Center at 1775 Hitching Post Drive, Green River, WY. Boasting an L-shaped swimming pool complete with a tot dock and fun activities, the center also hosts a workout center dubbed “The Muscle Cave”, a cardio facility, a gymnasium complete with soccer, volleyball, and basketball activities, a single-person cold plunge, and more. On top of it all? The nursery. For $4.00 an hour to $8.00 a day per child, the nursery only requires that you stay within the building, giving you the opportunity to kick back and relax, study, or even pump those muscles. Nursery attendants will keep your children safe, occupied, and having the times of their lives. As of now, the hours run from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, but hours are subject to change depending on usage. Hear that? Get your parent friends together, stage a baby protest inside the nursery, and they might just extend those hours. Curious? Call the Recreation Center at 307-872-0511.
Coming up next is the White Mountain Library located at 2935 Sweetwater Drive, Rock Springs, WY. The children’s area has a free playset kitchen, toys cycled out to keep things refreshing, and varying activities week to week. Best of all? Rows of computers. You can sit down and plug away while your children run around causing glorious mayhem. The library also holds Toddler Time on Tuesdays at 10:30 AM, which is full of fun activities and a great way to make friends for the little ones. Remember that despite all the chaos, there are plenty more parents right with you. If you’d like to know more about their Toddler Time and why it’s amazing that one plastic card gives you access to hundreds of books, go ahead and call 307-362-2665. Even their staff once told me: “You can have all the children’s books you want. All. You. Want.”
Finally, we have the Family Recreation Center at 3500 Sweetwater Drive, Rock Springs, WY. Complete with a swimming pool proudly holding a lazy river, water slides, and a toddler’s play area, the center also hosts ice skating, basketball, a running track, and even right down to a children’s center. While you still may have to sit off to the side on a provided bench, something is better than nothing. The children’s center is full of giant foam blocks to build castles and obstacle courses from, as well as an indoor playground, and best of all: admission is free. If you’d like to try out the other amenities, the prices may vary, but are decently affordable: children six and under are free, youth (7-18) and students are $4.00 per day, and adults are $7.00. Go ahead. Give them a call 307-352-1440.
