Ghoulin’ Around: A Student’s Guide to Local Haunts

It’s that time of the year when ghosts roam the streets and black cats herald the dark. With Halloween creeping over the horizon, it’s time for everyone to get their freak on. All across Rock Springs, there are celebrations to be had, parties to dance at, and haunted houses to test everyone’s bravery. For those of us who are of legal age, you can even spot some liquid courage at a few of these local haunts. So, grab your shovels and let’s dig six feet deep to see what all the fright is about.
First up: Rock Springs’ historic Park Hotel. Dating back to 1914, who knows how many boos and bones still rattle in the walls? Lasting until Halloween, the hauntings promise animatronics and jump scares even down to the basement. With later hours, students can easily make room for a fright night among their busy schedules for only $15 per person, or $10 for children under ten. Go ahead: get your spook on here.
Or maybe a murder mystery is more your style. With free admission and a meal served an hour before each performance, the Broadway Theatre is proud to present Murder at the Prop Table. Take a seat, suspend your disbelief, and get lost in a world of riveting twists and backstage chaos.
Need a little liquid courage to last the night? Screams in the Springs is the place to go for the 21+ crowd. Strap on your stomping boots and get ready to do the graveyard smash with killer tunes, cocktails, and costumes with prizes on the line. So, dress to distress at 545 N Front Street the night of October 24 whether you’re chasing ghosts or chasing drink specials.
Speaking of a graveyard smash, get your Monster Mash on at American Legion Archie Hay Post 24. Boasting a costume contest complete with drinks, dancing, and music, the event is expected to last from 8 PM to midnight on October 25. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back, so get that curiosity satisfied here.
For those of us who identify somewhere between the lines of ghouls and ghosts, the Halloween Late Show is the place for you. Starting off with a drag show at 8 PM, horror nostalgists can look forward to vintage entertainment inspired by Tales From the Crypt and Goosebumps alongside dinner and drinks. To tie off this horrific night, the after-party promises dancing and partying. Go ahead and join your fellow enthusiasts at the Old Rex Hotel.
Rock Springs has a fright for every flavor. From haunted hotels to cryptic theatre, this town is practically oozing with Halloween spirit. Happy haunting!
