Welcome to the future of learning! Introducing the Virtual Reality lab and Hy-Flex classrooms

The Virtual Reality (VR) lab was approved fall of 2023 and then built throughout the academic year. In the VR lab we have 23 Oculus headsets that allow for a free range of motion and make for a fun and unique experience. Along with the Oculus headsets we have two Index VR systems which is a wired system. In the spring of 2024 physical walls were put up and we added in some furniture! Throughout this time, we have been applying for WIP funding through the state of Wyoming to purchase high powered computers capable of rendering VR. By Spring of 2025 we now have 13 high powered computers thanks to funding from WIP and Perkins grants. Starting in the fall of 2025 there will be an introductory VR class teaching the basics of VR. Topics covered will include: how to use and troubleshoot the system, the history of VR, and some simple introductory coding into VR.
Along with the VR lab we also have another new and great opportunity to further education in the Information Systems Lab with the HyFlex classrooms. Beginning in the fall of 2023 we opened our first HyFlex classroom located in the Information Systems lab. The first room was such a success that we had to expand. A second room was put together and was utilized starting in the Spring of 2025. Both rooms are now being utilized by multiple disciplines. HyFlex (Hyper-Flexible) courses combine the best of in-person and online learning. It allows students to choose how they want to participate in class: in person, live online, or access recorded sessions at your convenience. Or a mix! The new classrooms allow students to be fully immersed; even if they can’t make it to class in person. Whether you’re stuck inside due to a storm, or came down with an illness, Hyflex learning gives you the chance to attend class from the comfort of your home.
