A Cage Made of Glass

I'm running out of ways
to tell you I'm fine.
Without tipping my hand
and spilling my lies.
Lips forced up
by the cracked reflection
in a smashed mirror.
Your apology is genuine -
I see it in the wrinkles
under your eyes -
but I still feel shattered inside.
A glass top spinning,
propelled by pain
that burrows into
my slow-beating chest.
-
Soon I'll run out
Of sharp corners
In my mind.
When you find out,
will you turn away
as the mirror fogs?
When I found out,
I ran straight
into your embrace -
a cold, sweet, traitorous cage.
A cage made of glass,
unlocked and open,
taunting me to flee.
You've trapped my twice,
because I"m not fine -
and that is no lie.
