Health Science

The Associate of Science in Health Science builds the foundation for numerous health science occupations.  This degree plan is for individuals who are interested in going on to more advanced degrees such as radiologic technology, dental hygiene, mortuary science, and nursing. The curriculum is designed to include foundational general education courses, and the flexibility to select  courses to specific to a multitude of healthcare professions.  

The recommendations for course work according to major focus within Associate of Science in Health Science are expanded upon below.  Students are strongly encouraged to discuss their academic program with their faculty advisor.

Students interested in applying for Western's Associate Degree Nursing program enter the College in the A.S. in Health Science program to start the nursing prerequisite courses. The student must apply for admission into the Nursing Program.

The student is advised to work with their Western Nursing faculty advisor.

The A. S. in Health Science consists of the specified general coursework required for admission into many Dental Hygiene programs.  The student is advised to work with their Western faculty advisor and an advisor from the transfer institution.  This allows for the student to plan the coursework to meet the prerequisite requirements for application to a Dental Hygiene program.

The A. S. in Health Science consists of the specified general coursework required for admission into many Radiologic Technology programs. 

Weber State University has an Radiologic Technology outreach program which allows students in Southwestern Wyoming the opportunity to complete an Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology. These students may continue to live in their own community and work on their degree. 

The A. S. in Health Science consists of the specified general coursework required for admission into a Bachelor's of Science Nursing program.

This is for the student who intends to transfer to another institution prior to taking any nursing courses. 

The student is advised to work with a nursing advisor and the  institution of transfer. 

The school of health science has two courses that allow the student to be trained in a skill set, test for certification, and become employed.  These course are Nurse Assistant and Phlebotomy. Both combine theory, lab, and clinical coursework.
