This year’s NJCAA Rocky Mountain District Championship Wrestling Tournament will be hosted by Western Wyoming Community College on Saturday February 10th, 2018, starting at 12:00PM.
This tournament serves as the qualifier for the national competition. Western currently has five nationally ranked wrestlers: Kenny Astle ranked number two at 149 pounds, Tucker Tomlinson ranked number eight at 165 pounds, Matt Hebel ranked number three at 174 pounds, Connor Kirkland ranked number four at 184 pounds, and Wade French ranked number seven at 197 pounds.
Northwest College’s nationally ranked wrestlers are: Nodir Safarov ranked number two at 125 pounds, Taylor Jeffries ranked number five at 133 pounds, Jeff Oakes ranked number two at 197 pounds, and Richard Anau ranked number two at 285 pounds.
The schedule for Saturday’s event is as follows:
9:45AM – Skin Checks
10:00AM – Weigh-ins
12:00PM – Semi Final Matches Begin
3:00PM – Finals, Followed by Challenge Matches, then Trophy and Medal Presentations.
“We are hosting the Rocky Mountain District Championships here in Rushmore on February 10th. The event will crown the District/Regional champion and serves as the National Qualifier which is held on February 23rd and 24th in Council Bluffs, IA. There will be some exciting wrestling with two of the teams competing ranked #4 and #6 in the nation! Along with the top teams there will be nine nationally ranked wrestlers competing on Saturday,” said Art Castillo, Head Wrestling Coach and Athletic Student Success Coordinator at Western.

There is a $5.00 ticket charge for the day, however senior citizens and students can attend for free. Programs are available to purchase for $1.00.
